Unit 10: GLITcH

This unit involves experimentation with a range of 2D processes and materials. You will develop ideas for experimental 2D work in response to the personal directions you take. You will review and consider some effective presentation techniques that best display your final outcome for an exhibition at the end of the unit.

The brief allows you to explore a broad range of artists (5) who use two dimensions as their art form. The project title is GLITcH, so you will explore artists who use this theme in their work.

You are encouraged to explore many 2D art specialist areas – such as:

Drawing, Collage, Painting, Photography, Digital Art, Textiles (flat), Mixed Media, Tattoo, Illustration, Stencilling, Spray Art, etc.

You will be given examples of approaches and past students’ work, so it is important to be on time for all your lessons so you do not miss these really important educational inputs.

Research

At the beginning stage of the unit, I researched various artists and their styles; this allowed me to design ways to portray my ideas for the project.

Due to the amount of different artists and photographers I wished to research I decided on doing a standardised style for these pages. I started with doing a background using acrylic paint or possibly photos and text stencils. In later pages, I began using tissue paper to create texture in the backgrounds.

After doing my artist studies, I began to develop my initial ideas and some artwork to explain my ideas visually and finally began explaining my final pieces’ initial concepts.

Informed Study

For my informed studies, I wanted to attempt to recreate the style of the cover art for “blah blah blah magazine” and “Raygun magazine”.

To do this, I took original photos each day on my way to college and edited the photos in lessons using Photoshop. I then created the page in my sketchbook by printing, sticking the exported photos in, and explaining the page on a little note.

Design Development

After my research and informed studies, I began developing my final pieces and slowly got into a groove with developing a similar style between each photo yet having a different underlying theme behind them.

All these images are my original photos and have been edited by myself using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Whilst developing these ideas, I thought if I took photos of the process on screen, it could add another glitch layer.

GLITcH: Final Series Photographs

Using all the research and development that I created, I produced a series of photographs. Unfortunately, one of the photographs glitched too much and corrupted. However, the rest of the images are accessible and look as planned.
